    HV Stations Commissioning staffs are responsible for verifying that plant is functionally operational and fit to be connected to the electricity network by applying best safety, operation & engineering practice and standards.

    Although nominally based in Dublin, commissioners work on projects nationally from their agreed location. Working days/times are largely influenced by outages and system requirements, requiring a high degree of flexibility on the part of staff.
    Full training will be given to successful candidates. A performance based incentive arrangement is in place for field commissioning staff.

    The Role
    Working on a national basis, at times largely dictated by operational constraints, key tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
    Assessment of site safety prior to engaging in commissioning activities and to coordinate own work schedule with the Person In Charge of Works as appropriate.
    Commissioning primary, secondary and peripheral plant forming part of Transmission / Distribution substations which to be connected to the electricity network.
    Commissioning testing of instrument transformers, power transformers and HV switchgear.
    Commissioning testing of protection relays
    Functional verification of protection scheme designs and compliance to approved design standards.

    Coordinate, plan, and deliver allocated commissioning projects
    Reflecting client’s values and policies when interacting with fellow staff members or when dealing with the Client on site
    To share his/her experience in the ongoing development of safe and best practice commissioning protocols where identified.
    Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.

    The Candidate
    The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following skills:
    Proven ability to assess site safety prior to engaging in commissioning activities and to coordinate own work schedule with the Person In Charge of Works and System Manager as appropriate.
    Self-motivated and capable of working on their own initiative without direct supervision
    Work well with other team members and actively participate in achieving the team’s targets
    Good written and verbal communications skills.

    Excellent interpersonal skills
    Able to organize, plan and monitor all aspects of the work
    Have a logical, yet imaginative approach to problem solving
    Demonstrates the ability to make quality decisions and judgements
    Prepared to take the responsibility for developing other members of staff.

    The ability to accept responsibility and be able to show a high level of commitment and flexibility

    Qualifications/Experience
    Formal qualification (Degree) in Electrical Engineering.

    Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the Power Transmission and Distribution or Power Generation industry.

    Technical Competencies:
    Knowledge and experience of Electrical Safety Rules and procedures.
    Knowledge and experience of operations procedures and operation of primary substations
    Thorough knowledge of schematics, cubicle wiring and functional testing
    Experience of pre-commissioning cubicles and station plant;
    Working knowledge of digital relays and software
    Appreciation of test equipment. Doble and Omicron Test Equipment and application software.
    Conceptual understanding of the design and operating mechanism of Power Plant i.e. power transformers, CT’s , VT’s, circuit breakers.
    Familiarity with typical protection philosophies as applied to Transmission and Distribution Networks
    Computer literacy including Microsoft Office.
